JSP is a standard developed by Sun Microsystems as an alternative to Microsoft’s active server page (ASP) technology.

The full form of JSP is ” Java Server Page .”

JSP pages are very similar to ASP pages where they are compiled in the server, not on a user’s web browser. This is why they are called ” server pages “.

But JSP is completely Java -based, ASP is visual basic-based. This is the reason that JSP pages are used to create dynamic web sites and also to access database information in a web server.

Java is interspersed in JSP pages with HTML , while all Java code is parse into the server.

This is the reason that once the page moves to the browser, it is only HTML. On the other hand, JavaScript is usually parse through a web browser, not a web server.
