Kbps (Kilobits Per Second)

1 Kbps stuff is 1,000 bits per second. The full form of Kbps is ” Kilobits Per Second .” This means that a 300 Kbps connection can easily transfer 300,000 bits in a second. 1,000 Kbps is the same as 1 Mbps.

Kbps is mainly used to measure data transfer rates. For example, dial-up modems are rated for their maximum download speeds, such as 14.4, 28.8, and 56 Kbps.

From the 1990s to the early 2000s, Kbps became a standard way to measure data transfer dates. But broadband connections such as cable and DSL now offer speed that too several megabits per second. Therefore Mbps is more ubiquitous (nationwide) than Kbps.

In Kbps, the lowercase “b” is much more important. It means “bits,” not bytes (which is represented by a capital “B”). Since a byte has eight bits, 400 Kbps is the same as 400 ÷ 8, or 50 KBps.

Because data transfer speeds are now traditionally measured in bps, therefore Kbps is commonly used in KBps.
