OASIS is a non-profit, global consortium that supports development and adoption of e-business standards.

The full-form of OASIS is ” Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards .” OASIS does not mean desert oasis at all. Rather it is a welcome sight in the world of computer science.

OASIS provides many useful technology standards. Common standards that are regulated by the OASIS consortium include protocols, file formats, and markup languages. Hardware and software companies often work with OASIS so that they can develop and institute such standards that are efficient and effective.

The standards that are created by OASIS are actually open standards, which means that they can be done by any company or organization. This allows multiple companies to develop products that are based in the same standard, while offering a higher degree of interoperability between different computer systems.

For example, a file format is standardized by OASIS which can be supported by many different programs. Since each program can save files in the same format, files can be opened by any program without converting or translating them. This makes it possible to do transferring of files between applications or in different systems through a seamless process.
